Cross Country



Today we entered a cross country competition at Diss High School. There were 8 runners from Kingfishers in the Roydon team.  Everyone did really well competing against pupils throughout the cluster, but special congratulations to Jack and Riley who were 2nd and 3rd respectively, in their race and have therefore qualified for the next round. 
Fantastic! Well done everyone.

Viking Day

Kingfishers, Rabbits and Foxes have had an exciting day, full of hands-on experiences and lots of learning. We were divided into 2 groups. In a role play exercise we helped to build a Viking boat and sailed to Britain to attack the Anglo Saxons. Everyone had an important job to do whether it was building the boat, hoisting the sail, rowing, steering, measuring the depth of water, loading the boat with goods or stolen treasure.... Far too many jobs to mention all. We found out what clothes the Vikings wore... We learnt how to make a Viking house from wood... We had weave the branches in and out to make a wattle frame... We also had a carousel of activities in the classrooms.  We played a Viking v Anglo Saxon game... We had hands-on experience of Viking artefacts... It was a filling day!

Shrove Tuesday

Shrove Tuesday is a good reason to do some cooking!  Today we made pancakes and enjoyed eating them with the traditional lemon and sugar (or strawberry jam).  While the children waited for their turn they found out about some Shrove Tuesday traditions.  We talked about giving things up for Lent.  A few people have said they will give up chocolates or sweets.  Jack thought he would give up vegetables! .... We did point out that it should be something that is a challenge - we're not sure that vegetables is a challenge! When the cooking and eating was over we had a go at tossing pancakes... only a few landed on the floor!
