National Space Centre

On Wednesday, Kingfishers had a great day at the National Space Centre in Leicester, together with the children from Otters and Owls classes.  It was an early, 7am start, in order to have enough time to look around.

Soon after we arrived, we watched the Astronaut show in the Planetarium.  With images all around us, it really felt like we were moving through space.

Then we had time to look around the various exhibitions and climb the rocket tower.  There was so much to see and do which taught us about life in space and the universe.

Viking Day

Kingfishers, Rabbits and Foxes have had an exciting day, full of hands-on experiences and lots of learning. We were divided into 2 groups. In a role play exercise we helped to build a Viking boat and sailed to Britain to attack the Anglo Saxons. Everyone had an important job to do whether it was building the boat, hoisting the sail, rowing, steering, measuring the depth of water, loading the boat with goods or stolen treasure.... Far too many jobs to mention all. We found out what clothes the Vikings wore... We learnt how to make a Viking house from wood... We had weave the branches in and out to make a wattle frame... We also had a carousel of activities in the classrooms.  We played a Viking v Anglo Saxon game... We had hands-on experience of Viking artefacts... It was a filling day!
